As the budget axe falls …

sacbee.com — Local government — Shelter space may be slashed
Supervisors discuss a proposed $4.4 million in cuts affecting the county’s homeless and disabled.

Some highlights:

More than half the available shelter beds would be closed down, including the award-winning Mather Community Campus, if cuts discussed Tuesday by the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors were implemented in an effort to deal with the county’s worst fiscal crisis.

Department of Human Assistance officials outlined the potential effects of $4.4 million in cuts that have been recommended by county staff to close a budget shortfall now estimated at $49 million.

Kerry-Edwards ‘04

March 3, 2004

I’m happy to see so much talk about the potential of a Kerry-Edwards ticket for November.

I’d love to see a John Edwards-Dick Cheney TV debate … the Slick vs. the Suit. I really have a warm spot in my heart for John Edwards – he’s Clinton 2.0, and I mean that as a compliment.

If you read my post on ‘The Clinton Mystique’, you know I appreciate the people skills and personal charisma of the man as candidate & political operator, if not his morals or private behavior … or a number of his policies (Defense of Marriage Act? huh?). It’s people skills that draw votes from fencesitters.

Between the two of them (Kerry and Edwards), I really think most of those on the fence would like what they see. And, after all, it really IS about likeability.
