We just got back from vacationing in Maine. We’d NEVER been to Maine before, and I have to say MAINE ROCKS. Really. We flew into Bangor (which is the exception to the MAINE ROCKS rule – it’s the Sacramento of Maine, as far as I can tell, although it’s quite possible that Augusta is truly the Sacramento of Maine, but since I haven’t been there I really can’t say), which was warm and humid – even ’sultry’ – but quickly drove South to the coast, which, as I have already stated, ROCKS.
Temperature in Sacramento the entire time we were in Maine: 110 to 115 degrees (there were also approx. a dozen heat-related deaths).
Temperature in Lubec, Maine, the entire time we were in Maine: 75 degrees, with cool coastal breezes. Score!
A couple tips for you world-travelling types:
- If you ever find yourself desperate for a hotel room near the Bangor ‘International’ Airport, do not – DO NOT – stay at the Holiday Inn. You have been warned.
- If you’re looking for a FABULOUS fine dining experience in the Machias, Maine, vicinity, visit the Riverside Inn in East Machias, right off Highway 1 (the Coastal Highway, aka "Main Street"). But make sure to reserve for dinner at least a week in advance – they’re always booked.
